Nissan, Canton Employees Pledge $354,000 to United Way

Canton
Nissan and employees at its Canton vehicle assembly plant have pledged to contribute $354,400 to United Way in 2013, beginning with a $25,000 contribution to United Way of the Capital Area. Since 2005, Nissan and its employees have contributed a total of more than $3.5 million to United Way chapters in Mississippi.

“One of the privileges of being on the Canton team is the opportunity to support United Way and other community betterment organizations. We do that through our contributions as well as employee volunteerism and it makes me especially proud to work with a group of employees that are so generous and supportive of helping others in the community,” said Dan Bednarzyk, vice president of manufacturing for Nissan’s Canton vehicle assembly plant.

United Way of the Capital Area focuses its efforts in the areas of education, income and health across Hinds, Madison and Rankin counties. United Way collaborates with community and business partners and supports initiatives in all three focus areas.  “Our strategy is to invest, advocate and leverage resources in order to solve problems at their root causes. In 2011-2012, United Way invested more than $1.5 million to provide opportunities for families in the tri-county area. The longstanding support of Nissan and its employees is vital to our work in this community,” said Carol Burger, President and CEO, United Way of the Capital Area.

Nissan's Canton plant is celebrating the 10th anniversary of operations in 2013. Since 2003, the company and its generous employees have contributed more than $7 million to community organizations. In addition, Nissan employees are active volunteers in numerous community service organizations. Employee Phillip Street serves on the Capital Area board of directors, and Greg Gibb chaired the 2012 Nissan employee campaign.

“Nissan allowed me the opportunity to visit a United Way agency last fall, and see firsthand how United Way is able to serve the community through our contributions,” said Nissan Canton Body Assembly employee, Jason Evans. “Giving is such a great way to help others and to build a better place for our families. I'm always excited to see how we do in the pledge drive.”

The Canton vehicle assembly plant employs more than 5,000 people with an annual payroll in excess of $200 million. Nissan has announced plans to move assembly of the next-generation Nissan Murano to Canton from Japan beginning in 2014. Canton employees currently build the award-winning Altima, the Armada full-size SUV, the Xterra mid-size SUV, the Titan and Frontier pickup trucks, the NV commercial and passenger vans and this spring will begin building the all-new Sentra compact sedan.

Check out this great review from a pleased customer!

"EXPERIENCE WORTHY OF A REVIEW. When I purchased my used Maxima in November 2012 from Dublin Nissan, Ricky & Hector (salesman & floor sales manager) were kind, straightforward and did not make me feel pressured into making a decision.  (I generally feel this way when dealing with salespeople.) I had done my research and knew that the price tag for this vehicle was well below the fair market value for the options it had.  I knew what I could afford and was not going to budge.  Hector & Ricky helped me get a great deal.  They went above and beyond what I expected of salespeople." -Tara P.

Here’s your Monday Maintenance tip!

Run your AC during the winter! To keep your car’s air-conditioning system fit for the next warm season, run it a few times throughout the winter. This will prevent moving parts in the compressor from seizing. Also, circulating the refrigerant will help keep the seals soft and pliant.

We just received two great new reviews on Yelp! Check them out here!

"I came in to purchase my very first vehicle yesterday after visiting multiple dealers in the past. Dublin Nissan is by far the best one yet! Hector, Ricky and Eddy were extremely knowledgeable of their job and put our needs before anything. Ricky made us feel very comfortable and was very professional. I Would totally recommend anyone pay a visit if you are looking to buy a car. They were awesome." -Carolina G.

Nissan Line-Up Impresses at 2013 Qatar Motor Show

Nissan’s impressive trio of the 2013 Patrol, Sentra and the new Nissan Altima debuted to strong reviews at the 2013 Qatar Motor Show, which wrapped up earlier this month in Doha. The Sentra and Altima have been completely redesigned for 2013, while the Patrol – a luxury SUV that seems to keep getting better and better – has become a Middle Eastern favourite, and was actually designed with the landscape of the region in mind, Nissan officials have said in the past.

The 2013 Patrol is the same combination of brawn and elegance drivers are used to — 7 seats, 5.6-litre V-8 engine, and a 3,500-kg towing capacity with 4-wheel-drive — but the amenities continue to improve, including a 13-speaker BOSE sound system, leather seats with wood-trim accents, rain sensor wipers, LED lights, and a touch-screen navigational system. After six decades of evolution the 2013 Patrol has decidedly claimed its space in the top luxury SUV category.

The 2013 Sentra and the 2013 Altima have been completely redesigned, and most reviewers agree for the better. Start with the 2013 Nissan Sentra, which is the economical choice for the buyer looking to get a small sedan loaded with features, but without the high price tag. The Nissan Sentra not only saves buyers money on the front-end, but keeps saving due to a new engine that gets excellent gas mileage — 36 miles per gallon on the highway/6.5 litres per 100km – beating out other top-ranked competitors in fuel economy.

The new 2013 Nissan Altima is a star and its sophisticated redesign has already won the vehicle one major accolade: the prestigious Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in America. It was one of only 13 cars to win the prize for overall excellence in safety. The car has also earned an ‘A’ from highly-respected Edmunds, with solid reviews from Cars.com and other automotive review publications, with one saying the 2013 Altima was the best Altima Nissan has ever made.

Along with re-designing two of their best-selling cars, Nissan plans to release 15 hybrids by 2016, including a new hybrid Altima and plug-in hybrid. It will be interesting to watch Nissan over the coming few years, as it is clear they are not afraid of bold decisions. If this latest Nissan line up is any indication, this is a company on a particularly good streak at the moment.

Nissan LEAF Smashes 50,000 Global Sales Milestone

Today the 100% electric Nissan LEAF marked another milestone in the history of EVs as it passed the 50,000 sales mark, reinforcing its position as the best selling electric vehicle of all time.

The owners of Nissan LEAF around the world have now covered a total distance of more than 260 million km*, greater than the distance from the earth to the sun. All of these kilometers were covered with zero tailpipe emissions, contributing to government's efforts to reduce levels of harmful NOx and particulate matter in cities. The highest mileage LEAF globally has been revealed as a Japanese customer who has covered more than 175,000 km, in a car that has only been on sale for two years.

In 17 European countries, 7,000 cars are being driven every day, with one customer in Spain has already clocked up over 43,000 km in one year. This is far beyond an average annual mileage and the rapid build up of mileage is testament to the reliability of the award winning EV. This is further demonstrated by its extraordinary customer satisfaction rating of over 95%, the highest of any Nissan vehicle.

In the last 12 months Europe registered significant growth of the CHAdeMO quick charging infrastructure. The number of these chargers which allow batteries to be recharged from empty to 80% battery capacity in around 30 minutes has rocketed from 158 to 601 in the last 12 months. The plans already in place are to more than double by the end of this year the number of installed quick charging installations. These units are being installed at strategic locations such as shopping center car parks or highway service stations, allowing the 50,000 Nissan LEAF owners to push the electric vehicle revolution even further.

*Figures are based on all LEAFs registered with the Carwings telemetry system, which is not mandatory and not all vehicles are registered.
