Nissan Leaf Limo arrives for those electric occasions

01_a_nissan_leaf_limo
The electric-powered Nissan Leaf's struggles to find buyers in the United States has been well covered; Nissan thinks it can still sell 20,000 this year, even though it's sales totaled 2,613 through May. Fortunately, there may be new market opportunities for the Leaf, thanks to a Missouri firm's brainstorm of building the first Leaf limousine. Styling, meet profiling.

Spotted by Electric Vehicle News, the conversion was handled by Imperial Coach Builders of Springfield, Mo., a professional limousine builder whose output generally trends toward the stretched Escalade/Hummer/Chrysler 300C range.

One can only watch so many Hollywood awards ceremonies with stars arriving in hybrids and stumpy electric cars before wondering if there isn't a better way. As the video below shows, the conversion adds an extra set of seats and some amenities to the Leaf without changing its basic character, although I'm not sure Nissan wants to know how the builders extended the power connections between battery pack and motor.

The world's largest environmental summit marks first time UN will use zero-emission shuttle fleet

A fleet of electric vehicles from the Renault-Nissan Alliance will shuttle United Nations delegates at its Conference on Sustainable Development in Rio de Janeiro, the world's largest environmental summit.

The conference, which runs from June 13-22, marks the first time the UN will use a dedicated zero-emission car fleet for shuttling its delegates.

More than 50,000 delegates, including 400 from the UN, are expected to attend the summit - nicknamed "Rio+20" - to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the United Nations' Earth Summit in Rio, where countries agreed to a blueprint for economic growth, social equity and environmental protection.

Car "Tip of the Day"

01_a_wipers
Hey Fans - Here is your "car tip" of the day - Rainproof Your Windshield Manufacturers recommend replacing your blades every three months. Keep a spare set in your trunk. A product such as Rain Clear can also help minimize the work of your wipers; spray it onto the glass every few weeks. In some light rains, it makes the wipers almost unnecessary.

Car "Tip of the Day"

Hey fans, here is your car "Tip of the day". Touch up nicks sooner rather than later: Touch-up paint won’t adhere well to rust. So be sure to keep some matching touch-up paint on hand so you can touch up any minor nicks, often found around door edges, before rust has a chance to form.

Usain Bolt and Nissan GT-R Team up for New Marketing Campaign

Three time Olympic Gold Medal sprinter Usain Bolt and Nissan Motor Co. have joined forces for a new marketing campaign. Dubbed “WHAT IF” the campaign is designed to tantalize the senses, highlighting Nissan’s vehicles and technologies designed to “excite,” such as the GT-R supercar.

According to Bolt, the partnership seemed logical, since as the world’s fastest man, he already owns one of the world’s fastest cars – a Nissan GT-R. “The Nissan GT-R is a wonderful car and perfect for me. I love everything in it. I enjoy driving it, and I feel completely safe, and that is the key thing for me,” he said.

The new campaign is the first to emerge from Nissan’s new global marketing arm, that was given a brief last year to develop programs that accelerate Nissan brand awareness, as part of the firm’s Power 88 business plan.

“WHAT IF” will initially be visible at major international airports worldwide from June 1, with the goal of lasting several years, via continuously refreshed content. Nissan says that the campaign will also feature prominently online with shareable social media content and more in depth stories and features
